Photo Friday: BUILDING...

This is a little cairn we stumpled across while in Greece. As we passed, we carefully balanced the top stone on it, wondering who else had been involved in it's assembly. Although some of the brightness of this photo has been lost in scanning it (yes, I still work with film and I don't have a proper scanner), I still love it...

It was a gorgeous day when we arrived in Monestary Bay, Alonissos. We moored relatively close to shore, surrounded by green hills. As soon as "our" yacht was securly anchored, we jumped into the sea for a swim before a delicious lunch. After lunch, we took our minature rubber duck across to the shore and headed along a small dirt road and about 700 stairs up a hill to the Monestary. It was a really hot day and the fact that, once you've climbed to the top of the hill, you're not allowed into the Monestaries with legs or shoulders exposed, just accentuated the heat. Jake was not amused. After our browse around the monestary, we began our descent. About half way down, we found this little cairn and my mom added our symbolic rock to the stack. I took a tumble shortly after taking this photo and then had to carry my grumpy, hot son for the remained of our "hike" down. What amazes me most about this photo is just how clearly I can remember this day. We visited so many different places during our time in Greece and I honestly took a lot photos, but most of the time, everything just falls into a blur and I have to look at the photos (and labels) to remind myself where we were in each of them. This was obviously a good day!!

PS. I almost forgot, this was taken with my trusty Nikon F65 - is that important?
