It's a dog's life...

As most of you know, it's been pretty cool in Cape Town just lately - winter has arrived most suddenly.  My lovely south-facing little home, obviously built to be cool in summer, is like a fridge and our gas heater is working over time.  So much for global-freaking-warming!
My poor little Duracell, without his Princess Amber to keep him warm is really feeling the cold these days.  He's getting older now (will be 11 next month!) and I feel so sorry for him when I leave him in the mornings.

Because it's been so cold, I've been leaving him inside the house during the day while I'm at work. Most days warm up OK, but it's still dark and cold when we leave the house at 7am.  By then Duracell is usually snuggled up on the couch with 2 blankets to keep him warm.  He's a funny little dog and loves to bark at whatever he can see outside the windows, which means that his blankets are off him the minute we walk out the door.  I'm sure he regrets this as he sits shivering on his own until I get home and can wrap him up again.  So, yesterday, Jake and I went out and bought him a little jumper and now he's snug as a bug in a rug.  Obviously Jake had a fair amount of thrust in deciding which style jersey to buy Duracell...
He's pretty lazy a lot of the time these days, mostly because of the cold.  I think he's starting to feel it in his joints.  He's quite happy to lie on his pillow in front of the heater until bed time.  Unless you ask him if he wants to go for a run or for a drive in the car to visit Nini and Pa.  Then he's awake...

To celebrate his new jersey, he rolled in some other dogs unmentionables on my fenced in lawn, not 5 minutes after we'd put his new top on him.  Needless to say, everything, including the dog has been washed.  He's now a happy, clean, warm pooch!

Daisy is 12 and when her joints started to seize up I bought some Devils Claw powder from the health shop - doggy version of course. The change was amazing and now I put a little on her food every day. I just can't picture her in jacket, I think her fat keeps her warm:)

He's DELICIOUS! I love these little coats you get for dogs - but Travers has a sh*t fit (sorry!) when he sees them! Not terribly fond of them! Pffft. Maybe if I buy a Stormers or a Bokke jacket, he'd change his mind??

Don't tell Mr Brown but sometimes I leave the cats' heat pad on ALL DAY :)

Oh my, Duracell is so sweet!
Love the new coat you got for him.
I made one for our Paddy and she seemed much cozier in the cold weather.
Thank you for the pics!
