You'd better watch out...

Last week saw Jake performing as Father Christmas in his school play. He has been super excited about the concert and has been singing Christmas carols for weeks on end.  He was thrilled to be nominated as the big man himself and wore his costume for almost the whole afternoon before the show (minus the beard, he wasn't too keen on that).  I expected him to get cold feet before the show, since he was one of only two kids with a speaking part, but he obviously doesn't carry my genes and did outstandingly.  He was brave, spoke loudly and clearly and I was a very proud mommy (as always).

His special place for the duration of the concert was a box, which served as a chimney. It was right at the front of the stage and we were lucky to get front row seats on the lawns...

They opened the concert by singing our full national anthem (I'm not sure that I know all the correct words myself *blush*), but it was very sweet.  They were supposed to put thier right hands on their hearts, but most of them forgot, including Jake...

Some of the sheppards not singing...
The Three wise men...
Besides the traditional nativity, the theme for their concert this year was 'Around the World'.  Cowboys and cowgirls...
I love the singing and always feel quite emotional watching them all singing the same songs that we sang for our pre-school concerts.  Funny, it doesn't feel that long ago...
Oh Christmas Tree.  Please note how skew Father Christmas' beard is at this stage.  I must be honest, these concerts are always worth a good giggle.  Kids are too funny for words and they all do different things at different times...
 Following the star...
The Hula girls getting into the swing of things.  Seriously, these little girls know how to shake it!

The kids had a special "surprise" (not such a surprise, since Jake's been singing it over and over and over and over) in store for us.  For the grand finale, they sang and danced to waka waka.  It was the perfect ending to the year we've had and they did really well...

See what I mean about them all doing different things at different times??  Funny...
And that was it.  All their hard work and preparation gave us about 30 minutes of entertainment.  Jake couldn't wait to get his hat off...
He went off to get changed and joined us for a picnic dinner (we'd all been eating throughout the show).  He'd gotten dressed into his costume without my help and had clothes on underneath his outfit.  What I didn't realise was that he packed these socks and shoes to go with those shorts.  Shame, my boy needs to learn some dress sense or he'll never get married...

All in all, it was a fabulous concert and the kids outdid themselves (and teachers of course).  It really started the festive season early in our house and it's great that Jake knows the words to some of our favourite Christmas carols.

Sorry it's taken so long to share these pictures, work has been so, so busy this week, I just haven't had time.  Loving my new camera though.  Other than that, I have a very busy weekend ahead.  Jake has a friend from school's farewell tomorrow morning and I have my book club year end function on Sunday.  We're going wine tasting and then to Evita se Peron in Darling.  Really looking forward to my day out with the girls!  In between I have to find time to do washing and ironing and final preparations for our holiday.  6 more sleeps!!

Enjoy your weekend, whatever you're up to!

I adored being entertained by various God-children's concerts over the years, and yes, most of them made us giggle throughout. Ever seen the bit in the nativity with a panto horse? I never thought I would either, I had to bite a knuckle off to stop myself from laughing out loud ;o)

As for Jake's socks/shoe/shorts combo - quirky styling, good man!

Cheers, enjoy the vacation!
