The next chapter...

Well here we are - grade 8 and the start of high school!  All kids went back to school officially on Wednesday.  Jake's school had a sports day for the grade 8s on Tuesday, which was a nice start for them.  They were able to make some new friends and get into the spirit of their new school.  They were given text books and allocated lockers.

Jake is going to the local government high school.  It's a good school and it's walking distance for Jake, which is a huge bonus.  His day starts 15 minutes later than it did in primary school, which means 15 minutes of extra sleep.  That's a huge bonus to a teenage boy!
Jake and my mom - he's even taller than her now...
Wednesday was the day of "butterflies in my tummy" day.  I tried so hard not to make too much of a fuss out of this HUGE step in Jake's life and it wasn't easy.  There were a few tears shed on my part as I watched him walk into the school gates in my rearview mirror that first morning...

So, Jake's going to the same high school that both myself and his dad went to.  His dad's name is up on the walls of the school hall, because he was a deputy head prefects in matric.  I think it's cool for Jake to have that tie to his dad and I think he's quite proud to be able to share that little momento with his friends.  Hahaha - his dad was an old boy.  And I'm not an old girl FYI...
This kid is growing through the roof at the moment, it's awesome to see him growing up and becoming a young man...
From this angle, Jake looks so like Jacques.  I see it across his eyes and Jacques had beautiful eyes.  Oh yes, in high school, you're allowed to wear your hair any way you like these days.  Pretty much no rules, long as they look neat and tidy...
To Jake,
I tell you so often that I am so proud of the beautiful young man you are growing up to be.  I know that your dad would be exploding with pride too.  You are beautiful inside and out and I'm so proud to be your mom.  My wish for you is that you knuckle down and do your best.  Have fun and enjoy this stage of your life.  It's a time of huge changes and by the end of high school, you will be ready to go and study to become whatever you dream for your future!  It's only 5 years of grafting!!  Grow in confidence, love yourself, trust your gut, have fun, learn, explore, travel, don't take life too seriously, laugh, respect yourself and those around you, remember that I love you more than you could ever, ever imagine and that I am here to guide you as best I can.  You can do it, my sweet child!!  I love you, Mom X

Thanks for visiting and hopefully these unedited photos don't stop you from dropping in again sometime.  I'm trying to be a more regular blogger this year!!

Love,
Sue xxx
