I've been too busy to blog. I'm sorry to those of you who might stop by here from time to time! I end up starting and never finishing. Today I plan to finish a post that I started last Tuesday and have had to abandon numerous times between then and now.
Jake and I had a little braai last Monday evening. Jake loves the responsibility of making us a meal and of lighting up his own fire - he can stand there and watch the wood or coal burn forever. On Monday though, he decided to pick the watermelon in his veggie patch. He'd been disappointed with his harvest this year and the 4 melons that grew, all had holes in them. Pretty much, he wanted to see the maggot life inside his melon and was sent to the lawn to cut it open and and throw away. We were stunned when he cracked it open - our melon was perfectly pink inside! The little hole had made a little scar inside the melon and the fruit was just about perfect, if not slightly over-ripe. You can see the little scar on the melon at the top. Needless to say, we chopped it up and scoffed it with our supper...
A few weeks earlier, Jake had picked his biggest melon - it had 2 holes in it and he left it on the stoep outside our kitchen door. It was starting to turn yellow and so his search for worms continued... We were pleasantly surprised...
How much melon can you eat though? Jake phoned my mom to come fetch some and we took some to Blouberg with us - yum, yum - thank you Jake!!
Speaking of Jake, things are going SO much better for us! He's admitted to being very jealous of Marius, although he adores Marius. It's something that we're working on and I'm trying to help him see the happy side of the picture when he feels threatened by it in any way. It is very cute how protective he is of me and I do appreciate it! School work is going really well and Jake is busy with his term tests this week. He works hard and he really does his very best. I still have to help him quite a bit, but he's becoming more and more independent, which is also lovely to see! Next week is going to be an exciting week for Jake too - on Monday they're building bridges at school the whole day; Tuesday is the school gala and Jake's swimming finals for 3 strokes! I've taken the day off to go support him and to take a few photos! Then from Wednesday - Friday Jake's off to School in the Wilds (SOS). I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do without him, but he is so freaking excited!! I am very happy for him and I'm really glad that he's been on a few cubs camps too - he's not nervous at all.
As for our therapy sessions - they're going well. Jake's sleeping far better, especially now that he knows there's a reward in it for him. He seems to be much happier too and so I'm already starting to feel like I made a mountain out of a mole hill. I think, maybe, that it was just getting back into routine with meds and school and sport, etc that was tough for Jake. Now that he's back into the swing of things, I feel like I've got my old boy back! He's been much more respectful and better mannered too, so I'm thrilled. Happy families again!
OK, must dash off again. Sending lots of love to all my loyals

Those melons look yum! I wish we were close by to stop by for a melon date we haven't been lucky this heat with store bought melons :(
Poor Jake having to share his mama's affection and time after having you all to himself
Wonderful!!! Happy to hear things are going well in school and he is doing better. Rather make a mountain out of a mole hill, than ignore and then it turns out to be bigger than anticipated
