Belated wishes...

On Sunday, we celebrated Cameron's 9th birthday!  Wow, 9!!  He was just 7 when Marius and I started dating and he's grown up so much in such a short time.  He's really come out of his shell and where he was always smaller and quieter, he knows how to stand his ground now and make a noise along with the others.  He's a very laid back kid and is lots of fun to have around.

I baked a vanilla cake (Cam's request) for him and got up early to make the boys pancakes for breakfast.  Actually, Marius wasn't supposed to have his boys, but we were invited to their mom's for a braai on Saturday evening to celebrate and they came home with us. Marius was working at a show on Sunday afternoon and so, Sunday morning was our only time to all be together.  It was a lovely morning...
All candle and singing time... and waiting for a slice of cake...
The birthday boy...
I think he was happy with his cake and he landed up with no girlfriends.  Doesn't he look like Marius here?  He's actually so like his dad, it's a little scary...
A little later, we took the boys down to the beach for a KFC lunch (also Cam's request).  Jake's had a new haircut...
I love this pic of Cam...
And Michael.  Yes, he was being naughty - throwing his sprinkle pops into the air for the seagulls...
And nope, he didn't get pooped on...
I tried to get a photo of Marius with his boys, but none of them were in the mood and this is probably the best I got out of the bunch.  They all look like wallies...
Jake was game though.  He knows the way to my heart (and my temper at the moment, but that's another story for another time)...
Cam showing off his favourite part of his birthday lunch...
He also had fun throwing food for the gulls.  The game was to see if he could reach the chip before the gulls did...
But...
Finishing his lunch off properly, literally licking the "bowl", was far more important...

Jake and Michael...
And our three punks all together...
Their play almost always ends up with some form of wrestling, which drives the grown ups nuts, but least the little people have fun...
Our weekend was over all too soon.  We had such a lovely day on Sunday and it was so special to be included in Cam's birthday and to be able to help make his day a special one.

Jake has been writing tests all of this week and has done reasonably well.  I'm a bit concerned that we never get to see the questions or answers and so can't help our kids where they go wrong.  Jake doesn't remember any of his exam questions ever.  I mean, I get it that the teachers don't want a hundred parents querying their marking, but how are we supposed to teach them when we don't even know how things are being worded.  I guess it's up to the kids from here, we can only help them so far.

And on that note, I'm really glad that the weekend is almost here.  I'm busy getting my garden cleaned up today - there's so many weeds, you can almost not see the garden, so looking forward to getting going with our veggie patch again soon.  Jake and I have the dentist tomorrow afternoon just for quick cleans and check ups and then we're going through to Blaauwberg.  Cam's party is on Saturday afternoon; they're going to play laser tag and Jake is super excited about it.  I am supposed to be meeting a friend for breakfast sometime, but the rest of the weekend is going to be lazy!  I need that!

Hope everyone's well and that life's not as crazy where you are as where I am!

Sending love,
Sue XXX
