Our Holiday Part 4: Someone Turns 60...

Boxing Day is my mom's birthday, this year, her 60th!!  Jake and I were up as early as our bodies would allow, to go and join my mom for our traditional birthday breakfast - left over trifle.  It's always better the next day!!  Getting my mom a gift is always easy, this year we bought her a handbag and filled it with some of her favourite things.  Jake was more excited about giving his Nini her present then he was about his Christmas presents.  He's been bursting to share it with her.

A standard for my mom's birthday is her "Oor Wullie" Annual.  Don't be rude now, "Oor Wullie" is a Scottish cartoon and the name translates to Our Willie, or William.  When my grandfather was alive, his brother used to send him the Oor Wullie and The Broons (The Browns) annuals every year.  They were shared amongst the family and we all took turns reading through them.  I can dedicate a whole post to this - maybe sometime in the future.  Anyway, my mom loves nothing more than the nostalgia of curling up on her bed for an afternoon nap with her comics and some smarties...
 Another comic...
The weather was exceptionally hot on Boxing Day and the temperatures went up to nearly 40 deg C.  Jake was in the pool just before 11am and only got out again at 5pm, with a couple of sunscreen top-ups in between.  After he'd had something to eat, he was back in the pool until it got dark.  He loves being big enough to take Bi around the pool...
Despite being adamant about not having a party, Mom's day was very special and she was surrounded by all those nearest and dearest to her.  She had her usual trail of visitors from early in the morning, until late at night, everyone helping to clear off the Christmas left overs.  Here's our long time family friends, from your right to left, Kathy, Joanne and Abbey.  Abby's was on holiday from the UK, so it was good to catch up with her again...
Bi is such a water baby and she's fearless...
Her big brother's not so brave.  He still doesn't like getting his hair wet and is very hesitant about getting his eyes in at all.  He's managing to blow a few bubbles, so getting there...
A picture of Mom with her gorgeous grandchildren...
Jake with Gareth's mom, Pat and his Granny Karen.  Pat's tickling Jake's back, hence the glazed over half asleep look...
All in all, a special day with lots of special, happy memories for our special Mum.  I hope that this will be an amazing year for her, she really deserves it.  She is the most thoughtful, giving, kind, loving person I know!  All we wish for her lots and lots of happiness!!

With love,
Sue X

Happy Birthday to your mom. Wishing her long life, good health, love, happiness and God's blessings. A truly magical way to spend a birthday - family, friends, love and good food. Must be so cool to know your birthday is always a public holiday
