Lucky

To clear the air... Jake and I were in a bit of a prang in my car last night.  My car is badly hurt, but we are both OK and have walked away surprisingly unscathed.

So, I had been to visit Jo and the kids during the afternoon.  They are so lovely and little Bianca makes me so broody (not that I really want one of my own).  She's just such a peaceful baby and smiles all the time.  Connor and Jake played together beautifully, while Jo and I had tea with our friend, Lee-Anne.  To avoid evening traffic, we stopped in at Danie's for hot chocolate before heading home.  We left around 6:40pm and I wanted to pick up a burger for Jake to eat in the car from McDonald's, which is dangerously just across the road from Danie's house.  We'd literally gone about 100m and gotten to the traffic light, which was turning orange as I passed through it.  Honestly, in hind sight, I should've stopped.  We all should at an orange light, that's why it goes orange.  But I didn't.  I went through the lights, the taxi driver (very different from the New York or London kind) coming towards us did the same thing, turning across my path as he went.  There was nowhere for me to go, except straight into him.  My smelly airbag popped up in my face, giving me as much of a fright as the actually collision.  Unfortunately, neither Jake nor I had seat belts on yet (we'd just left home) and were in the process of putting them on, but it has been a lesson to us not to even pull out the drive way without belting up first.  Thankfully, nobody was injured.  Both Jake and I are a little stiff this morning and Danie has some back rubbing to do later, but we walked away uninjured and that's what counts.

On the radio this morning, another taxi, carrying 18 people, plowed into two cars, killing a woman and child.  That gives me goosebumps when I think about how lucky we really were.  I feel protected and loved this morning.  Danie was amazing last night, he got to us before I'd even gotten out the car.  He sorted out my insurance and the tow truck guys (the first one was also there before I got out my car).  He organised a friend and his girlfriend (thanks Leroy & Lesley) to help out with Jake and to get everything out of my car.  It started to rain as the tow guys were hooking my car up, so it was great having somewhere for Jake to go and sit out of the rain, while I filled in forms.  It was nice to be protected and to be able to be a useless girl.  I'm old fashioned like that - chivalry is a winner in my books.

Today, my car needs to be assessed to see what the damages really are.  The insurance company will also send out their private assessor to confirm the damage.  That is if I can get the tow company to actually deliver my car to the panel beater of my choice not theirs.

Anyway, money is irrelevant, cars are unimportant, life is precious.  Thank you everyone who's shown us so much love and concern, we are truly blessed.

Love Sue X

Hey hey

As long as you are both ok then that's the main thing, as you say, a car is a car.

I hope you get all the insurance stuff sorted out ok, and I'm glad that everyone is all right.

As for your holiday break... I get excited if I see more than three types of bird in the garden, how many species of things did you get! some of your pictures are really going to put my chicken picture to shame. The Kingfisher one is amazing.

Cheers, hugs all round

I'm very grateful that you and Jake are safe and sound!
Perhaps the best lesson is the one about the seat belts. We have it as a reflex to click them before the car goes into gear.
So glad that Danie and his friends were able to help you through the immediate aftermath.
Please take good care of yourselves!
Hugs...
- Lee
