Life has been mad, Jake and I have been busy. And with our holiday just 2 days away, work is totally insane. I guess it doesn't help matters that I'm only here till 1, but I have really been putting in my fair share these last few days. I'm exhausted and I really feel ready for a lazy holiday now!! I feel like I can't wait any more, but that's half the fun of going on holiday, isn't it? The build up is always half the trip.
Not much news to report. The weather here's gorgeous and I'm looking forward to getting home this afternoon. We're off to Buitenverwachting to buy some wine for Rosanne and Gareth's wedding. It's been a while since I took Jake through to see all the cellar workers, so I'm sure he'll enjoy it. And of course he loves a run around on their lawns. Anyway, since there's nothing more to write, I'll just put up some snaps of what we've been up to over the last little while...
Jake & I baked a corn bread last weekend. It was DELICIOUS and very, very easy to make. And, truth be told, Jake actually made it. I just helped with the measuring and the oven. He did everything else. Anyway, I've forgotten the recipe at home, but promise to post it soon. It was an absolute winner with our braai...
Jake also pretended to eat earthworms he found in the garden. He thought he was hysterical...
The chocolates for on the tables at Rosie and Gareth's wedding arrived too. It was very difficult not to finish the box. They're for the guests. It's a good think I'm not wild about white chocolate though...Jake also wanted to eat them all...
Jake's learning lots of new things at school at the moment and he's forever balancing his body in new ways. Very clever, I think...
We've had a good gooseberry harvest this year. We've frozen them all and are going to make a gooseberry tart (pictures to follow some time)...
Little monkey...
These pictures are in terrible order, but I haven't got time to shuffle them around now, it's nearly home time. Here's Jake doing his thing at the braai...
I love this picture, but then again, he's got his dad's hands (always dirty) and I love seeing bits of Jacques shining through...
Connor spent the night at ours last weekend too. It was great. I love little bodies...Jake was a bit shy to get in the bath with him, but enjoyed helping out...
A few nights later, Joanne came to spend the night with us as well (Paul was away). I can't get enough of this cute little thing...
Jake (note the haircut) decided that he was sorry he hadn't bathed with Connor the previous time, so hopped in too. He was very cautious about keeping his boy bits covered up with a face cloth...
Just look how much Connor enjoys Jake! It works both ways though, I wish you could see Jake's face too...
Jake had a mid-week birthday party in the Waterfront a few days ago. We decided, instead of sitting in the traffic on the way home, we'd drop in at the 2 Oceans Aquarium and have dinner out. A date. Plus it was fun playing with my camera (although I kinda suck in low light, it was nice to experiment with some settings). The first were taken in the walk-in Nemo display, which Jake loves... Jake's Grandpa Hubie is an avid crayfish-er man. I actually think he'd pass out if he caught anything this big. It's body was bigger than Jake's thigh. Jake just wanted to eat it...
These penguins have no idea how lucky they are. Those apartments in the background sell for millions...
I love this lady...
The aquarium's also got a frog/toad display on. It's been on for a while now, so you might have seen it already. The frogs/toads range from really tiny to ginormous. This was some kind of a bull frog. It was nearly as big as the crayfish...This pretty one is an endangered Western Leopard Toad. They're renowned for crossing major highways in the Cape Town area (they're local and you can find them in the Cape Town Fynbos wetlands) during breeding season. They warn motorists ahead of the time, that the toads are on their way and that we need to avoid squashing them...
And lastly, Jake enjoying looking for sharks...
I'm undecided about taking my laptop with me on holiday, so you might not hear from me again until after 7 September. Don't miss me too much and please pop past again then!! Look after yourselves and your loved ones until I get back.
Lots of love, Sue xxx
