Out and about - Blaawberg

Love is in the air

March saw two sets of friends getting married. The first, my ex-next-door-neighbour, Gerard van den Berg to Lora, who grew up in Australia. They had a whole entourage of family and friends, who travelled from all over the world to join in the festivities. The wedding was held at Kirstenbosch, which I always find a stunning venue for weddings. It's so peaceful and really so beautiful. Their wedding was a ginormous party; actually the entire 10 days that they were here was one big party. It was fabulous spending so much time with them. And, of course, their Australian family...

The second wedding was that of an old school friend, Keith Horton to Ally. They're both from Cape Town and live in London now. They also had family and friends that travelled from all over to join them on their special day. Their wedding was in Wellington and I spent the night in a gorgeous little guest house with a few other wedding guests. We all had breakfast together, before heading home - I felt like I'd been away for a week. I actually woke up quite early and couldn't go back to sleep. I had a massive room to myself, with a lovely en suite bathroom, so I got up and made myself some coffee, crawled back into bed with my coffee and a magazine. Got up and had a 40 minute bath - it was great to have so much time to myself to just lie and contemplate the meaning of my life!

Easter fun!

Like so many, I can't believe that Easter's come and gone already. This year is sure flying by. Jake had an absolute ball on Easter morning and spent the entire day making sure that there weren't any more eggs in the garden. Not that he was short of any. By the way, the photo of him with the wheel barrow full of eggs are the entire family's eggs and not all his! Granted, most were, but I've put the majority in the freezer for later... Joanne and Paul came through to share the action and mom made a killer breakfast for us. All I wanted to do afterwards was sleep! Hope that you all had a good Easter and that you were spoilt! For those of you on diet, well done for avoiding the chocolates, I just couldn't resist! xxx

So, here they are - finally. Been having problems trying to upload these shots for days. Anyway, don't you think Jake looks like Jacques? I can't get over it. I think, because his colouring's so similar to mine at the moment, everyone just automatically says he looks like me. I do agree, to a certain extenant - there is a lot of me in him, but I love being able to see little bits of his dad shining through in between. He has the same colour hair as Jacques had at this age, where I was much blonder. I think he'll end up dark. Time will tell...

Picture problems

OK, been trying for hours to get the pictures uploaded onto my spot, but it just won't let me. Very frustrating. I'll keep trying and will get them up here ASAP. They're such cute photos, I have to share them. Jake looks SO much like Jacques in them, it's quite scary. xxx

Snail dilemma

As part of my parental bribery, I bought Jake a minature fish tank when he was potty training. The goal was that once he was able to wear underpants for a full day without accident, I'd get him a fish. Anyway, the woman in the pet shop convinced me that I needed to get two fish, plus a bit of greenery, making his tiny fish tank a little on the over-crowded side of things. Subesquently, the greenery gave birth to 4 tiny snails, which, in essence, were really cute and helped keep the fish tank clean. BUT, last night I realised that they are not all female snails and I now have about 700 baby snails. I'm in a bit of a quandary over what to do with the poor little things - I just can't keep them all. So, my job for this evening is to clean out and get rid of all the snails. My child is going to be devastated. Why did I do this again?? Gross man! Other than that, had a great dinner with a good friend, Sam, and her little boy, Mikey last night. It's always good to catch up over a couple of glasses of vino. Jake was really good, which was a nice change for when we're out and about. He's been a little on the sulky side when we're out lately. It drives me mad. I got some photos of Jake with Mikey, taken the last time we visited and I'll add them onto my blog after this. lots of love xxx

Easter Eggs...

Well, turns out, I'm not the worlds greatest blogger. Considering my blog's been running for about a month now... SORRY! Jake & I have both had a really bad flu and I was off work last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Still not feeling 100%, but a lot better than I was. We both had temperatures and really bad chests. It's not fun feeling sick, when you've got a sick child to care for aswell. Fortunately, Jake loves watching movies, so we lay in my big bed and I slept while he amused himself. Life's been quite busy lately and I'm dying for a couple of days without plans laid out. I definitely need to book a weekend off for myself and just laze around the house and do fun things with Jake. His all time favourite place is the Aquarium and we can honestly visit there every day and he'd be happy. He loves the freedom it offers and I just let him run wild while we're there. For those who don't know, kids under 4 get in free and an adult's annual membership costs R130, which considering it costs R65/visit, is a bargain. We practically live there when we've got time. Other than that, not a lot to report on Jake's development at the moment. He swallowed a bit of water at swimming last week and has decided he's not getting back in the water. It's holidays now for 3 weeks, so we're going to have some fighting to do when he goes back again next term. He's eating really well again, so I'm also guessing we're in for another little growth spurt. He's almost as tall as I was when I was 4 now. Easter's just around the corner now and Jake's SO excited about the bunny coming to visit. Every time we go past Easter Eggs at the shop, he just about jumps out of the trolly to point them out. Last night, I showed him the cross on Tygerberg Hill and told him that the cross was there to remind us that God loves us. He turned around and said "and for Easter Eggs". Seriously, he's obsessed - I don't know what I'm going to bribe him with after Easter! Thank goodness it's his birthday next month. Lots of love to you all xxx
